Former Central High School Teacher Linda M. Rose Dies at 77


Linda M. Rose, 77, of Rehoboth, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of William J. Rose to whom she was married for 58 years.

 

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Fortes) Duarte and sister of the late Phyllis Sheppard. She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Gina Herlihy and Maria Rose, and as well as her dear sisters Cheryl Duarte, Marianne Lucas and Paula Leep. She leaves three cherished grandchildren, Aiden, Olivia and Owen.

Mrs. Rose dedicated twenty years of her life as a Special Education Teacher at Central High School in Providence, where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, sense of humor, and steadfast commitment to their success. She was also a longtime and active member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center in East Providence.

 
She found great happiness in music and dancing, cooking for family and friends, and traveling. Above all, Linda was a woman of deep faith and a devoted member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church, where her kindness and spirit of service were felt by many.
 
Linda will be remembered always for her loving heart, her strength and the joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
 

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday, 4-7 PM.
