Douglas Elliott Tetreau Dies

Douglas Elliott Tetreau was born July 25, 1985, to Dianna Lynn Fallon and Gerard Robert Tetreau Jr. in Fort Benning, Georgia. Doug was a shining light in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but on April 24, 2022 that light flickered out.

Doug was raised in Foster, Rhode Island, spending much of his childhood on his family’s horse farm. Surrounded by forests and fields, Doug kindled a curiosity and creativity from an early age that would grow into a passion for art and music. He studied graphic design at Rhode Island College, graduating in 2007. Over the years he gained a reputation as a creative polymath. He would paint, draw, build instruments from salvaged wood, refine rough bits of metal into precious trinkets, cut and stain glass, and simply employ his hands to make the world a more interesting place.

Born into a musical family, music was a driving force in Doug’s life. Under his grandmother’s guidance, Doug learned to play the guitar and eventually taught himself to play the banjo, fiddle, and pretty much anything you put in his hands. Doug was particularly renowned for his banjo-making. It was not uncommon for friends and family members to receive unique, handmade banjos that looked as beautiful as they sounded. Through gifting his creations, he shared his unbounded love and kindness with each recipient. His artistic prowess was matched only by his ability to make people feel loved. Like his works of art, his spirit transcended description and innately touched all who stepped into his light. This light will shine on in the hearts and souls of countless loved ones.

Douglas is the grandson of the late Gerard R. Tetreau and is survived by his mother Dianna Fallon; his father Gerry Tetreau Jr; his grandmothers Caryn Elliott and Faye Tetreau; his sisters Erica Jordan and Kayla Bagley; his niece and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and admirers.

Please join us in honoring him on Tuesday, May 3 at Tucker Quinn Funeral Home from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI 02828. We will have a celebration in his honor at Twelve Acres from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, 445 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917.
