Betsy R. (Rosenstein) Franklin, Dies at 72

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late A. Louis and Beatrice (Frank) Rosenstein.

She graduated from Brown University where she was active in the theatre and later worked for the Village Voice newspaper in NY before attending BU School of Law. In 1985, she changed careers and was certified as a Master SCUBA Divemaster and Instructor by PADI and NAUI, and for the next several years, taught SCUBA in Islamorada, FL until, tragically, at the young age of 42, she suffered a major stroke following a medical procedure, leaving her severely disabled in mobility and speech. Against all odds, she succeeded in living independently, first in Islamorada and then in Boston, for almost all of the next 30 years, traveling to Alaska and France and staying active in her community.

She was the loving sister of Michael and Virginia Ross of West Roxbury and aunt to Jonathan Ross of Boston and Melissa Ross of Cambridge.

There will be a chapel and graveside service on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Lincoln Park Cemetery in Warwick, RI.

The family requests that masks be worn while indoors.
