Beloved Teacher Renee Lynn Bailey Passes at 57

Renee Lynn Bailey, 57 of Providence, RI after a prolonged illness, with her family by her side, was called to rest on Monday, March 22, 2021. Renee was the daughter of the late Robert L. Bailey IV and Vivian H. Bailey of Providence. She was the sister of Robert L. Bailey V ( Sybil), and Yhonna Bailey ( Harold Smith) both of Providence. Renee is also survived by her loving nieces and nephew: Ayisha Varella, Rodney Stevens, Ebonee Bailey, Ashanti Stevens and 2 great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Renee is also survived by her maternal aunts Kathryn Fernandez Blunt of East Providence, RI; Doreatha Freeman of Rieglewood, NC; Uncle Randolph Freeman ( Anita) of Rieglewood, NC. Her paternal great aunts Mrs. Elizabeth Bailey-Crawford of Silver Spring, MD., Mrs. Mary Fagg of Plainfield, N.J., and her lifelong friends Zina Brown, Carmen Roderick, and the late Cheryl Soares-Gomes whom she loved dearly. 

Renee began her education at the Henry Barnard Elementary School then on to St. Mary's Academy Bay View in Riverside, RI, class of 1981. Renee participated as a fierce competitor on the Bay View track and field teams and served as Class President her Senior year.  She continued to stay active with her Bay View Alumni up until her passing and was in the process of planning their 40th class Reunion.  Renee continued her education at Virginia State University earning her BA in Special Education and later earned her MA in education at Providence College.

Renee worked as a Special Education instructor at The Stevens Home for Boys in Swansea MA, as a Drivers Ed. instructor at the RITS, and a GED instructor at the ACI. She worked at the Providence School Department as a Special Education teacher and ended her career in education as the Head of the Guidance Department at Central High School in Providence, RI. Renee's students were her life. She was committed to each and every one of them from High School through college and in many cases throughout their adult lives.  To quote one of her former students, "If you attended Central High School in the past 25 years - you definitely knew and loved Miss Bailey- she was the best teacher and counselor to so many of us." Renee loved her students and they loved her!

Renee was involved in several organizations supporting education and her community. She was a former board member for the Mt. Hope Neighborhood Association, the Lupus Foundation, and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Theta Psi Omega Chapter.

Due to Covid 19 protocols, the services for Renee Bailey will be available through Livestream on March 31, 2021, at 11:00 am. Please refer to the Mt. Hope Community Baptist Church Facebook page. The appropriate information will be posted prior to the day of service.  The link will be available at 10:45 am (15 minutes prior to service) for viewing.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lupus Foundation of New England in honor of Renee Bailey.
