Taveras Announces Inauguration Plans
Friday, December 24, 2010
Providence Mayor-elect Angel Taveras yesterday announced his plans for his inauguration, which will largely be funded by private donations.
In an effort to “significantly lessen” the burden on city finances, Taveras’ transition office said it had raised over $100,000 in donations to fund it. Individuals and corporations who want to contribute can do so through the Providence Tourism Fund.
The inauguration is set for January 3. The formal ceremonies will be at 1:30 p.m. A public reception will follow from 3 to 4 p.m. at City Hall and an inaugural celebration will be held at 7 p.m. at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Pre-registration is required for the evening event.
