Scam Alert: Widespread Scam About Providence Parking Violations

Providence Municipal Court Chief Judge John Lombardi is warning people about a widespread scam.
“The Providence Police, City Council, and the Court are aware of the situation. The scam broke about 430 pm. I have received calls from Florida and California. Please do not make any payments. The police are investigating,” said Lombardi.

Providence Police said in a statement:
The Providence Police Department has been made aware of scam text messages claiming recipients have an unpaid parking ticket, followed by a “violation notice” and instructions to respond or make a payment.
Please do not respond to these messages. This is a scam.
The Providence Police Department will never solicit payment for parking tickets via text message or over the phone. Official parking violations are issued in person or through official mailed notices.
