Yesterday, in a ceremony at their headquarters in North Scituate, the Rhode Island State Police retired the badge numbers of the seven troopers killed in the line of duty since the law enforcement agency was founded in 1925.

The trooper who most recently held the badge number gave a plaque and the badge number to a family member of the trooper killed in the line of duty.

“Retiring these troopers badge numbers is the right thing to do to honor their memory. said Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety. "The seven troopers are all true heroes.”
