The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership has been granted a federal appropriation of $400,000 to help improve the capacity for mentoring in Rhode Island. The funding, made possible through the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, will help the RI Mentoring Partnership and 17 sub-grantees expand existing mentoring programs around the state and create new programs, providing 800 more Rhode Island children with the benefits of a mentor. “It’s really going to move mentoring forward in the state,” said Arlene McNulty, President and CEO of the program.

RI Leadership Toasts Appropriation

This morning, the RI Mentoring Partnership will be joined by Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Jim Langevin to make the announcement along with coordinators from the new Cranston COZ Mentor Program, other sub-grantees plus mentors, mentees, and parents at Arlington Elementary School in Cranston. The organization formed in 1990 with it's first program active in Warwick Public Schools, expanding to Aquidneck Island and Woonsocket schools in addition to working with 50 other statewide programs. “This is just a great opportunity for us,” said McNulty. “There such a need out there to have someone positive in these children’s lives.”
