Two Men Shot and Killed Outside of Providence Club Overnight UPDATED
Saturday, August 07, 2021
Two men were shot and killed in Providence overnight.
The latest violence comes as the city had been rocked by crime — multiple shootings, stabbings, and last weekend’s homicide which saw a 24-year-old woman gunned down on the East Side.
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza, who has been on vacation this week, held a remote "Zoom" with the press on Friday.

The Mayor continues to be available and is handling City business remotely in New Hampshire," said Elorza spokesman Ben Smith.
About Incident
According to police, the two men — whose identities are not being released at this time — were shot around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The incident occurred outside of Fuego Lounge on West Friendship Street in Providence.
Police, who were investigating, said there are no suspects at this time.
On Saturday morning, police announced the men were 25 and 27, and from Boston.
In August 2020, the Providence Board of Licenses temporary closed Fuego after a man who had been at the club was later shot by at least two gunmen leaving his club.
This week, the Providence police union issued another blistering rebuke of Elorza’s leadership.
“Has the mayor so quickly forgotten his own words? He tells the governor to ‘face the community,’ but apparently that only applies to him when it’s convenient. When he is on vacation, matters of police concern clearly don’t require his input. If the Mayor believes that the Colonel is fully qualified to handle police matters, then why does he continuously interject himself into situations of which he has no knowledge or experience to fully understand? Why does he continue to jeopardize investigations, just to get the quickest, most attention-grabbing sound bite for his political career on the airwaves?” said the FOP.
