This morning, just before 10:00am, Providence police received a call about a bank robbery on 37 Pitman St. at the Bank of RI branch by an unarmed 5’6” white male who robbed the bank using a note.  Because the bank had clear face shots of the perpetrator, police were able to apprehend the robber after approximately two and a half hours.

Earlier last week, a neighboring store reported a mugging, but police Captain James Desmarais does not believe these incidents are related. “The vast majority of bank incidences usually are drug users," Desmarais said. "Virtually all the time they don’t use a weapon because they can’t afford a weapon. They just allude to it because they’re drug users. That’s our experience.”
