Newport Mayor Says City Reviewing “Use of Force” at Wedding Melee

Newport Mayor Xaykham (Xay) Khamsyvoravong said the City of Newport is investigating "use of force" in the incident between a wedding party and members of the Newport Police over the weekend
Khamsyvoravong responded to GoLocal’s request for comment late on Monday. The incident took place just after midnight Saturday night.

Six were arrested, and one Newport Police officer was injured.
The Mayor said:
“I’ve been monitoring the situation and receiving updates as information has become available.
As with any use of force by our Police Department, this matter is undergoing a thorough review. Given the fact that injuries were sustained, the City is carefully collecting and reviewing the information.
The Newport Police Department urges anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Witnesses or individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the department's detective division, Captain Charles Silvia at 401-845-5739.”
