NEW: Victim of Fatal Sunday Morning Car Crash Identified by RI State Police

The Rhode Island State Police have identified the victim of the fatal car crash that took place on Route 146 on Sunday morning.

RI State Police identified the victim as Eric Sampson, 42, of Woonsocket.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The Investigation

Members of the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks responded to reports of a crash on Rt 146 south, south of Breakneck Hill Road, in Lincoln on Sunday morning at approximately 8:29 a.m. 

Troopers were assisted by members of Lincoln Fire and Police. 

Upon further investigation by the State Police, it was found that Sampson was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
