NEW: The Dark Lady Club Cancels Controversial Mural Project After Criticism

GoLocal reported earlier about the growing controversy involving a new mural on the exterior wall of The Dark Lady — an LGBTQ+ nightclub.
The club is located on Snow Street in downtown Providence. It has recently faced backlash for the outdoor painting of slain Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska, who was murdered on a train in Charlotte in 2025 by a man with an extensive criminal history.

The mural project is believed to be funded by Elon Musk. The club owners would not answer questions about the financing of the mural project.
Now the Dark Lady has reversed course and canceled the mural project.
In a statement, the club owners said:
We heard you PVD. We are deeply and sincerely sorry for everything that has taken place over the past week.
After reflecting and learning, we have made the decision to discontinue this project and will move forward with removal as soon as possible.
We remain committed to fostering unity, safety, and care for all members of our community, and we will continue to listen, learn, and act with those values at the forefront.
