NEW: RI Picks up Win in Casino Battle
Wednesday, December 28, 2011
Rhode Island may survive what could be a major hit to the state's economy after the Selectmen for the town of Foxboro voted 3-2 to tell Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick the town doesn't want a casino built.
Early this month, the Boston Globe reported New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft and Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn were in talks about potentially building a resort-style casino across from Patriot Place.
The report caused several Rhode Island politicians and economists to predict the state could be at risk of losing hundreds of millions of dollars if a casino was built in Foxboro.
