UPDATED: Providence Police Cruiser in Chase, Crash Into Assistant AG's Car - Now in Hospital

A Providence Police cruiser was involved in a chase with one vehicle, which led to the pursued vehicle crashing into another vehicle, GoLocal has learned.
The incident happened on Wednesday night.
The officer was reportedly in pursuit of a vehicle when it hit the vehicle on Broadway -- that vehicle was driven by Steve Regine, Assistant Attorney General.

The Smiley administration issued the following details after the publication of the GoLocal story:
At approximately 11:12 PM last night, a Providence Police officer on Manton and Plainfield Avenue observed and pursued a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Westminster Street without headlights or the proper use of turn signals, putting pedestrians in danger. The driver, Antonio Cueva, continued down Broadway before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Dave Gavitt Way. Providence firefighters were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire from Cueva’s vehicle. Cueva was taken into custody.
The driver of the vehicle struck was transported to Rhode Island Hospital as a result of his injuries. He remained conscious and in stable condition when transported. The accident report remains under investigation.
