Anjan Dutta-Gupta, founder and president of Middletown-based Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow (ASFT), has agreed to plead guilty in U.S. District Court to his involvement in a multi-milliondollar kickback scheme.

United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha announced today that Gupta would plead guilty to bribing a public official in order to guarantee payments and funding to U.S. Navy contracts and other work orders supposedly allotted for ASFT.

The plea agreement signed by the defendant and filed with the court today says that at least $8,000,000 was paid by ASFT from 1996 to 2011 to co-defendant Ralph Mariano, Mariano’s family members, and a Senior Vice President at ASFT. In addition, at least $1,200,000 paid to subcontractors ended up in the hands of Gupta via SIC, another company owned by him.

According to court documents, Mariano used his position as program manager and engineer for the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command to give millions of dollars to ASFT through contracts and invoices, in exchange for Gupta’s kickbacks.
