New Members Named To Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling Executive Committee
Friday, February 06, 2015
Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling, a Newport group dedicated to “stopping the establishment and expansion of gambling in the city,” announced the election of new executive officers at its January meeting.
Liz Taber will succeed Fr. Eugene McKenna as president. Attorney Frank Ray, a member of CCACG since its founding in 1977, will serve as vice president. Laurice Shaw, longtime CCACG member and former Newport City Councilwoman, will succeed Dave Wixted as secretary, and Kiki McMahan will continue to serve as treasurer.
“While we were successful in the last election, 38 years of fighting casinos in Newport has taught us to remain active and vigilant”, said Liz Taber. “We remain focused on educating voters and our elected officials about the harms of casino gambling and to support sustainable alternatives that strengthen our local economy.”
