According to sources, a sound like a “large explosion” was heard in Lincoln; people reported that buildings shook in Cumberland and all the way to North Kingstown.

Rhode Island Emergency Management and the Rhode Island State Police have responded and have heard the reports, but do not know the cause.

Laura Hart of Governor Dan McKee's office said their office is looking into the issue.

The official United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake page did not list any earthquake activity in the region as of 3 PM.
