Democratic Congressional candidate Anthony Gemma has picked up an endorsement from the Cumberland Democratic Town Committee
“I am grateful to the Cumberland Democratic Town Committee for their endorsement,” Gemma said. “I shall continue to work hard to prove that I am the best candidate for the Rhode Island First Congressional District.
“I am confident that this decision was made after the committee’s closest possible scrutiny of both Democratic candidates. I trust that they understand that I strive to represent the competence, integrity, and compassion that are at the core of our party’s tradition and that have been missing from the Rhode Island 1st’s congressional seat for almost two years.”

The endorsement appears to be the first sign of a support any city or town committee in the 1st District has shown for Gemma, who is challenging incumbent Democratic Congressman David Cicilline in September’s primary.
