Nesselbush, Ruggiero to Host State Celebration For International Women’s Day

Rhode Island State Senator Donna Nesselbush and Representative Deborah Ruggiero are hosting a state celebration of the United Nations-recognized International Women's Day. 

The event will take place in the Governor's State Room on Thursday, March 5 at 3 p.m. with this year's theme being "Women in the Military."

This year's honorees include Capt. Maureen Pennington and Command Master Chief Shannon Howe of the Navy, Maj. Kimberly L. Rhodes and Gunnery Sgt. Crystal Smith of the Marine Corps, Lt. Kelli M. Dougherty and Petty Officer 1st Class Joanna L. Moran of the Coast Guard, Col. Arlene A. Mello and Sgt. Maj. Deborah T. Storm of the Rhode Island Army National Guard and Col. Kimberly A. Baumann and Command Master Sgt. Lorraine P. Cassucci of the Rhode Island Air National Guard.

The Rhode Island National Guard will constitute an honor guard to escort the honorees in the State Room. Governor Gina Raimondo is scheduled to attend the ceremony. 

The United Nations has recognized and celebrated International Women's Day on March 8 since 1975.
