Man Charged with 2nd Degree Murder in Death of Worcester Firefighter Roy

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the December fire that killed Worcester firefighter Christopher Roy, Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. announced during a press conference on Friday.
Momoh Kamara, 21, of West Boylston, is also charged with arson of a dwelling, armed burglary and malicious destruction of a motor vehicle.
“Today’s indictment was the result of a long and intense investigation that started immediately after Firefighter Roy’s death and is ongoing. This investigation is an example of tremendous cooperation and coordination by local, state and federal agencies. I want to thank everyone involved for the many painstaking hours of hard work necessary to get us to where we are today,” said Early.

His case was continued to April 24.
The Fire
As GoLocalProv reported, Roy, 36, died on December 9 while fighting a fire at 5-7 Lowell Street in Worcester.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined today that Firefighter Roy died of smoke inhalation and the manner of death was a homicide.
Investigators determined that the fire was started in the early hours of Dec. 9 in the basement of 5-7 Lowell St. Residents of the three-story building were able to escape without injury.
About Roy
Roy was assigned to Ladder 4, Group 3 at the Webster Square Fire Station.
He had served on the Worcester Fire Department for 2 ½ years.
He leaves behind a 9-year old daughter, his parents who are Worcester residents, and a brother. He was a Shrewsbury resident.
