Man Assaulted With Saw After Suspects Try to Steal Catalytic Converter From Car in Providence

A man who was sleeping in his car in Providence said he was awoken by the sound of suspects trying to steal his vehicle’s catalytic converter.
The victim told police he was then assaulted when he tried to confront them.

About Incident
Providence police were called to Standish Avenue in the Mt. Pleasant area of the city early Saturday morning for a report of an assault.
Police said they met with the victim — a male in his 30s — who said he had been sleeping in his vehicle when he heard a grinding noise underneath him.
The victim told police he saw two people under his car, and when he went to confront them, he was hit with a pipe by one suspect, and what he thinks was a saw by another suspect.
According to police, the victim said the suspects then fled; he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment for his injuries.
Detectives are currently investigating.
