U.S. Senator Kamala Harris called out former Vice President Joe Biden's Civil Rights record on Thursday night during the Democratic primary debate.

In a defining moment for the California Senator, Harris criticized Biden during the second night of the Democratic presidential debates.

She went after his record of opposing mandatory busing of students to desegregated public schools.

Harris began her comments against the former Vice President by saying she didn't think he was racist.

Biden responded that he was not against public school busing, but he opposed it being ordered by the Department of Education and that it was a state-by-state issue.

Biden called her comments “a complete mischaracterization" of his record.

Harris later told CBS that she has a “great deal of respect” for Biden but was “just speaking truth.”
