At $295,000, the median price of single-family homes sold in the third quarter in Rhode Island rose 7.3 percent from the same time last year. Recent data reported by the Rhode Island Association of Realtors and its subsidiary, State-Wide Multiple Listing Service, also showed a 4.6 percent increase in closing activity year-over-year.

“Rhode Island’s housing market remains steady heading into the last quarter of the year. Low-interest rates are definitely keeping potential buyers in the game,” said Dean deTonnancourt, President of the statewide Realtor Association, at the beginning of November.

Third-quarter results on the East Side of Providence saw sales increase 19% over the previous year, but the average price drop 2.55%. And days on the market dramatically increased from 28 days in the third quarter of 2018 to 46 days in 2019 -- an increase of 64%.

In the rest of the city, Providence was a slight increase year-over-year in the third quarter 2.5%.

“The Nathan Seamans House is listed in the Library of Congress,” said Kira Greene with The Greene | Sweeney Team at Residential Properties, LTD, of the historic home at 15 Arnold Street. “Seamans was known to be a distiller and the story goes that George Washington himself may have had some of his whiskey.”

“The tale is memorialized on the beautiful dining room mural, [where] Washington is standing outside the front porch getting his shot glass filled!”
