Former RI Correctional Officer Found Guilty of Criminal Sexual Conduct With Inmates

Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Friday that a former correctional officer at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) was found guilty in Providence County Superior Court of having sexual relations with two female inmates between 2017 and 2018.
On Thursday, October 13, 2022, following the conclusion of a five-day trial before Superior Court Justice Joseph A. Montalbano, a jury found Collins Umoh (age 44), of Warwick, guilty of three counts of criminal sexual conduct with an inmate under his direct custodial supervision.
The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15, 2022, in Providence County Superior Court.

During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that from July 2017 through August 2018, the defendant had sexual relations with two female inmates while working as a correctional officer at the ACI’s Women’s Facility.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Carr Guglielmo of the Office of the Attorney General and Detective Herb Tilson of the Rhode Island State Police led the investigation and prosecution of the case with the assistance of the Department of Corrections Office of Inspections.
