Former Acting U.S. Attorney for RI Has Joined Effort to Stop Illegal Deportations

Sara Mirom Bloom, who served as acting U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island for about a year, has left the office.

She joined the District of Rhode Island in January 2022 as First Assistant United States Attorney, en then served as the acting United States Attorney for Rhode Island until January. Bloom took over the position after Zachary Cunha's resignation, who had served for three years. 

She worked in different roles at the Justice Department for 30 years.

Now, Bloom has left the Justice Department to join Mass Deportation Defense — an agency that “mobilizes advocacy, community outreach and legal partnerships to defend constitutional rights, provide access to counsel for those in the immigration process and pursue justice for those impacted by mass deportation efforts.”

She joins the agency as the Legal Director.

Bloom, a 1985 graduate of Swarthmore College, received her law degree from Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude in 1988.

 

Donnovan Named

Dulce Donovan has been named First Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, succeeding Bloom.

“Donovan has served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Rhode Island since 2001 and brings more than two decades of experience prosecuting complex criminal matters, including fraud and other white-collar offenses. She currently serves in the Criminal Division and has led significant investigations and prosecutions involving financial crimes, health care fraud, and public corruption. From 2023 to 2025, she served as Assistant General Counsel in the Executive Office for United States Attorneys in Washington, D.C., advising United States Attorneys' offices nationwide on employment, ethics, and compliance matters,” said the office.
