Ventura says that during the incident, he was assaulted by Providence Police.

On Friday, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said that he is taking disciplinary action against some of the Officers.

“Following a comprehensive internal affairs investigation, it was determined that certain actions by officers involved did not fully meet the standards of the Providence Police Department. While some actions aligned with department policy, others contributed to an escalation of the situation. As a result, several officers will be subject to disciplinary action and receive targeted retraining in specific areas, including de-escalation, use of force, officer conduct and demeanor, and the proper use of body-worn cameras,” said Perez.

“As Chief, I want to be clear: our officers are expected to de-escalate situations whenever possible and to represent this department with professionalism and respect in every public interaction. It is my expectation that all Providence Police officers uphold the highest standards and continually work to earn and maintain the trust of the communities we serve,” Perez added.
