BREAKING NEWS: DMV Director Resigns
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
DMV Director Sara Strachan has resigned, Governor Lincoln Chafee’s office announced today.
Chafee has replaced her with Lisa Holley, the former chief legal counsel for the State Police. Holley will serve as the interim administrator for the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles.
The turnover comes after widely reported problems with customer service at the agency. Chafee’s office said the new director will take “all necessary steps to quickly and dramatically improve customer service at the troubled agency.”

“It is simply unacceptable, especially in this economy, that many Rhode Islanders must sometimes take a day from work to conduct business at the DMV,” Chafee said. “My goal is to make the DMV a model of exceptional customer service and my instructions are very simple: fix the DMV.”
