Friday, April 15, 2011
GoLocalProv has learned that GOP 1st Congressional Candidate and former State Representative, John Loughlin will return to active duty in the United States Army with coalition forces in Iraq.
“During the campaign I repeatedly said that I wanted to be of service to state and nation,” Loughlin said. “This is an opportunity to be of service literally on the front-line of the war on terror.” Loughlin retired in 2004 from the Army Reserve and is now being re-called to the rank Lieutenant Colonel. He will work with public affairs staff in Baghdad.
Loughlin lost to Congressman David Cicilline in the November 2010 election with Cicilline garnering 50.6% and Loughlin scoring 44.6% of the first Congressional results.
When pressed about the potential for another congressional run, Loughlin said, “I will return to Rhode Island, released from active duty in plenty of time to run for Congress.”
Loughlin grew up in Rhode Island and attended Lincoln Senior High School, 1977; State University of New York, 1992; US Army Command & General Staff College, 1998.
While the exact details of the length of his deployment are not available for public release, Loughlin points to the Presidential directive that all US Forces must be out of Iraq by December 31, 2011. During the 2010 election cycle Loughlin officially kicked off his campaign on February 4, 2010.
