UPDATED: CCRI Says "Suspect With Knife on Bus" Prompted Lockdown

The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) has lifted a shelter-in-place order for the Lincoln Campus.

According to CCRI staff, one suspect is in custody.

Shortly after 4 PM on Thursday, CCRI released the following:

This afternoon, RIPTA contacted Lincoln Police and Campus Police regarding a passenger on a bus carrying a knife. The bus was stopped in the rotary at the entrance of the Lincoln Campus. 

Officers from Lincoln Police, Rhode Island State Police, and CCRI Campus Police responded immediately. Witnesses reported that the suspect fled the bus and possibly entered the Lincoln Campus, prompting CCRI to initiate a campus lockdown.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of law enforcement, the suspect was apprehended, and the situation was resolved without harm to our community. Based on information provided by law enforcement agencies, the suspect is not a CCRI student.

CCRI had sent out the following alert on Thursday afternoon shortly after noon

ALERT – LINCOLN CAMPUS: Shelter in Place (office, classroom, or other safe place). Close doors/windows. Do NOT leave campus. Wait for additional instructions.

The order was issued at 12:56 PM.
