Amtrak Cancels Multiple Trains; Piece of Highway On-Ramp Falls Onto Amtrak Tracks in Cranston

A portion of a highway on-ramp in Cranston fell onto train tracks below on Friday, causing travel issues for both Amtrak and drivers.
Amtrak has canceled
“On Friday evening, a parapet on the on-ramp between Rte. 10 North and Rte. 95 North in Cranston dislodged from the bridge and fell onto the train tracks below,” said the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) shortly after 1 AM on Saturday.

"There are no related injuries. RIDOT engineers are working through the night to assess the scene. RIDOT staff from the bridge, project management and maintenance divisions are on site along with Amtrak.
RIDOT has closed the ramp from Rte. 10 North to I-95 North at this time and asks travelers to use other routes. Amtrak trains that use that stretch of railway are not expected to resume until late Saturday morning at the earliest. Amtrak will continue to update its customers.”
