Three were killed in a crash on Tuesday morning — the driver and two passengers in a single-vehicle accident.

According to the Rhode Island State Police, “Earlier this morning, at 1:55 AM, Troopers from both the Wickford and Hope Valley Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash in the tree line of Route 95 South, just south of Exit 8, in the town of West Warwick.”

“Members of the West Warwick Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the flames. Troopers located the driver and two passengers inside the vehicle, who had all suffered life-threatening injuries from both the crash and ensuing fire. West Warwick Rescue personnel declared that all were deceased on scene,” state the State Police.

Due to the nature of their injuries, neither the driver nor passengers were able to be identified on the scene.

“The investigation revealed that a sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed in the second lane of travel of Route 95 South. The operator subsequently lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road and into the grass shoulder, where it then struck a tree and became engulfed in flames,” state the State Police.

All three occupants were extracted and taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for confirmation of identification via dental records, those results are expected by the end of the week.

Troopers from the Reconstruction Unit, as well as the Forensic Services Unit, also responded.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Wickford Barrack at 401-444-1064.
