What to Do to Increase Value of Your Home While Waiting to Buy Next One: Mott & Chace LIVE

For some who are looking to buy a new home, it can be frustrating making offer after offer and losing out to other buyers.

Kim Marion of Mott & Chace Sotheby's International said she has worked with those who have won the winning bids and those who have been edged out.

While more homes are coming on the market with the pandemic winding down, there are still far more buyers than sellers.

"It is still hard to buy in Barrington, Newport, and on the East Side," said Marion.

Marion said she has buyers where “one is on five tries but they're hanging in there and the other is on their third try.”

She said it can be frustrating.

Tips for What to do While you Remain in Your Home to Make it Better and to Raise the Value

Marion offered advice to those people still in their current homes -- who are looking to buy -- as to how they can be proactive during this time.

"I started thinking [about this]. There are probably some DIY (do it yourself) projects they could do that might actually make them feel happier in their house while they’re waiting," said Marion.

"And then by the time they come to market, when it does change, and you know you’ve been in the market when it’s up and down --  it’s going to change but don’t know when it’s going to change -- they’ll have a house that’s ready to go and they’ll end up making more money because it will be more of a buyers market," she added.
