RISLA: Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program Helps RI Businesses & Employees

Tom Jacobellis with the Rhode Island Student Loan Assistance Authority appeared on GoLocal LIVE where he discussed how the employer student loan repayment assistance program can help Rhode Island businesses — and employees. 

"The CARES Act included the employer repay program — and that is a new benefit to employers to make payments on employees' behalf, to their student loans," he said. 

According to RISLA, a survey conducted by the Manpower Group found that 6 out of 10 people with student loans debt would consider switching employers to receive help in paying off debt. 

How it Works

Companies can decide which employees are eligible to receive the benefit — and RISLA then works with the business to set up the program, and communicate with enrolled employees about the process. 

RISLA manages the employer’s contribution for payment application to the various services, and RISLA also handles payment confirmation and communications with employees.
