Proud Mary’s Miller Highlights Over 4,000 Donut Topping Combinations on LIVE

Ruarri Miller, owner of Proud Mary’s Donuts in Riverside, brought a dozen of his custom made sweets to GoLocal LIVE.

Fresh, made to order donuts are dipped in glazes and toppings with seemingly unlimited combinations at the East Providence donut shop.

“You’d be surprised what you come up with. We like to experiment, and it keeps people coming in. We allow the customer to design their own favorite treat, your creativity is the only limit. Between the glazes and toppings there is something like over 4,000 combinations,” said Miller.

With toppings from peanut butter cup to Flaming Hot Cheetos, Proud Mary’s allows customers to create fun and wild donuts.

“We have over twenty toppings and ten glazes. Our strawberry glaze is made with real fresh strawberries. If there is a local source, we use it. We feature a lot of local companies, like Borealis Coffee’s cold brew, which is right next door,” said Miller.

With the intention of breathing fresh life into the town center of East Providence, Miller opened Proud Mary’s with the community at the forefront.

“We were thinking about a few different things, but donuts, we found, really lent themselves to a conversation. We were excited about doing something that made the community excited, and as you know, Rhode Islanders love their donuts. It is a place where people can have fun, and if you start with the intention of having fun, it brings people in. We have been excited about making our town center involved. We are right on the East Bay bike path and wanted to be one of the businesses that’s a gateway to Riverside. Main streets are coming back to life.”

To ensure the freshest donuts, Proud Mary’s makes all of the donuts to order.

“From the beginning of the assembly line to the end, it takes about two minutes to cook and then five minutes to cool. We execute fresh,” said Miller. The donut assembly line starts with fresh dough and ends with dips and toppings of the customer’s choice, and are served warm.

After finding success with their custom donuts in Riverside, Miller talked about plans to go mobile. “We are working on opening a donut truck, which will allow us to bring our product throughout the state. A core part of our business is being made to order, so we will be making them fresh on the truck.”
