RI Young Dem's 17 Year-Old "Organizer of the Year" Planning Run in 2018

Seventeen year-old Yanene Castedo - a Central Falls resident and joint student at The Met School and CCRI - was recently awarded the "Young Organizer of the Year" by the Young Democrats of Rhode Island, and says she plans on running for office in 2018. 

Castedo spoke to initiatives she is currently working on, including automatic voting. 

"I believe young folks should have a 'vote' -- [even] if that means our numbers are being registered, that shows adults we want to vote, and we're patient enough to wait," sad Castedo. "Just because we're new at this doesn't mean we don't have the knowledge and patience to learn more."

Castedo said she is potentially eyeing a run for Central Falls City Council. 

"It' s a small place," said Castedo. "I love the community I hope I can represent it."
