Prof. Lawless Talks Final Weeks of Campaign and Magaziner's Refusal to Live in His District

Magaziner is the Congressman for the second Congressional District. WPRI unveiled his refusal to move into the district he represents.
Lawless, a Magaziner donor, said, “What I would say is, it's not smart. When I ran for Congress, I was living in the first district. Within a matter of days, I moved to the second district and then lived there for real.”
“If I were defending the behavior, I would say that Rhode Island is a small enough state where the entire thing is drivable [and] it's very possible to have your finger on the pulse of what's going on in Westerly or West Warwick or East Greenwich without living in the second district. But it's not a good thing to do. He should live in the second district; he should actually move into the house in the second district and if he was running in a very competitive election this cycle that could matter,” said Lawless.

Second congressional district candidate Seth Magaziner has a brand new ad. The ad features him, his wife, and their young child in front of a simple ranch house.
However, that house in the ad is not his official residence — his home is on the East Side of Providence, not in the second congressional district, but in the first congressional district.
According to Providence real estate records and Magaziner’s own filing with the Rhode Island Board of Elections Campaign Finance Division, as of August 1, 2022 he lives on Catalpa Road in one of Providence's most expensive sections of the city.

Former President Donald Trump is pushing an economic strategy that would increase tariffs on imported goods — a strategy that leading economists and business press like the Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal have flagged as a strategy that will increase the costs of goods and hit the middle class.
“It has taken the Harris campaign a while to message that. They're beginning to do it; whether it's too late, we don't know, but it's also one of these things where the American people generally don't know what a tariff is, and it's not a coincidence that Donald Trump is talking about tariffs using that word as opposed to taxes and so some of this is just trying to continue to push his supporters to believe that he's going to solve all their problems without highlighting that his economic plan might contribute to them,” added Lawless.
