Araujo Seeks to be “Voice for Working People” in Providence City Council Run

Mike Araujo
Rhode Island Jobs with Justice Executive Director Mike Araujo appeared on GoLocal LIVE ahead of his official announcement to run for Providence City Council in Ward 13.

“I want to be a voice for working people -- my family has a history of public service,” said Araujo of his decision to run for office.

Araujo spoke to outgoing Ward 13 Councilman Bryan Principe, who had announced earlier this year he is not seeking re-election.

“Principe had a great last year, between the [Community Safety Acty] and building bridges,” said Araujo.

From expressing his support for the proposal currently pending by Jason Fane to build a 46 story tower on the former I-195 land, as well as rent control measures, Araujo spoke to a wide range of issues he envisions running for office.

“Ward 13 is not a wealthy ward,” said Araujo, citing housing costs and rents as to concern. “Cost of living is probably number one, but [I’m going to be] going out and talking with people.”

Araujo’s campaign kick-off is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Armory Park playground.
