Lt. Gov. McKee Says RI's Small Businesses Need to Be Top Priority - More Support Needed Now

Lt. Governor says RI needs to do more for small businesses
Rhode Island Lt. Governor Dan McKee urged small businesses to apply for assistance through the “Restore RI” program — with the deadline next week — and also urged the Governor to make more funds available to small business.

“There are two grant programs — one is the ‘Restore RI’ and then the other one is ‘pause] grants,” said McKee, in an appearance on GoLocal LIVE.

“We’re still asking that other businesses like dentists and eye doctors and chiropractors would be allowed in, similar to when we were advocating for the child care to be put in a month ago when they were not allowed to apply for several weeks,” he added.

“We're encouraging all the small businesses we talked to, to apply — so get yourself in the queue,” said McKee.

More Support Needed

“We need to spend those CARES Act dollars by December 30th — that’s $1.25 billion and $50 million of that has been appropriated [to] Restore RI,” said McKee.

“It’s short of what my office and the coalition of small businesses have asked for and we’re still asking that more dollars get put in there because the demand is there,” he added. “So it takes a while to facilitate the application and distribute the dollars so I think that’s they picked that date.”
