LIVE: Technology Could Be Best Fight Against Drinking and Driving

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2015 there were 19 drunk driving deaths in Rhode Island. According to NHTSA data, that made up 43% of total traffic fatalities in 2015 in the state.
Creamer says, with apps like Uber and Lyft, taxis, designated drivers and public transportation, there’s no excuse to have drunk driving traffic fatalities.
With ignition interlock systems and something called Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) Creamer says technology could make it more difficult for people to drink and drive.
Overall, Creamer says the best way to combat drinking and driving is through education.
