LIVE: DeBare Says Education Could Be Key To Ending Domestic Violence

Deborah DeBare, Executive Director of Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, says educating yourself about domestic violence is crucial, and it’s the first step in ending the cultural problem of sexism, harassment, and abuse.
DeBare says, if every person became informed and aware of the warning signs of domestic violence and how to intervene, she believes we could turn the problem around.
She says it’s also important to model healthy relationships for our youth.

DeBare explains the #MeToo social media movement is raising awareness about the scope of the problem.
She says the campaign “No More Silence” is about inspiring people to people speak up and support victims and survivors, because it’s going to take a cultural change to stop Domestic Violence.
