In a broadcasting debut, West Warwick native Johnny Gates performed two original songs from his untitled EP on GoLocal LIVE in the Navigant Credit Union Broadcast Center.

Gearing up for his east coast tour, Gates performed an acoustic version of  “I Wish I Knew You” and “LA” on LIVE.

Fresh off his appearance on NBC’s The Voice, Gates went to work writing and recording music that he says defines him as an artist. Gates says he tried to make the experience and the music as natural as possible.

“It needs to be organic. It needs to be real,” Gates says, “we live in a time where there’s so much music out there. People can be picky with what they love. They are exposed to so much music, it needs to be real, it needs to be good.”

The currently untitled EP has four tracks, which Gates says he wrote and recorded in his apartment and recording studio. Gates says one of the songs, “LA” came together in a voice memo on his cell phone.

Gates will perform at The Met in Pawtucket with fellow Rhode Island native and The Voice contestant Troy Ramey on June 24.

After his east coast tour, Gates says he wants to continue putting music out to fans and looks forward to meeting with music producers.
