LIVE: A Sandy Hook Mother on Turning Grief Into Action

Alissa Parker
Alissa Parker lost her 6-year-old daughter Emilie nearly five years ago in the Sandy Hook school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.

Since the tragic incident, Parker co-founded Safe and Sound Schools, a nonprofit that helps communities improve security and safety at schools.

Parker also released her first book, “An Unseen Angel: A Mother's Story of Faith, Hope, and Healing after Sandy Hook,” which she says is a journey into her faith.

As a way to express emotions through the grieving process, Parker began the TheParkerFive blog, where the family shares pictures, thoughts, and stories of Emilie. The site has 3.5 million page views.
