Jamestown’s Lure Attracts Out-of-State Buyers: Mott & Chace’s Carstensen LIVE

Nicole Carstensen LIVE
Nicole Carstensen with Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty discussed some of the hottest properties on the market in Jamestown in an appearance on GoLocal LIVE — and why out-of-state buyers are looking more and more to Rhode Island.

“We have seen over the last six months to a year — if you look at geography, we’re fairly close to New York, so we’ve seen a lot of New York folks come to the Island…also from Boston, [to be] closer to the mainland,” said Carstensen. “You have the coastal, small-town vibe community [in Jamestown], but we’re also three miles to Newport…if you want to get into the hustle and bustle.”

Carstensen said one of the advantages Jamestown has — lower property taxes than many other areas in the greater New England and New York region.

“The median price on the island right now is around $1.6 million — taxes for sure a benefit to some of these folks from towns within New York that go wow, [taxes comparatively in NY would be almost] a mortgage payment,” she said.

Selling a Landmark

Carstensen also spoke to some of the properties Mott & Chace has listed — including the former Jamestown Inn.

“1076 East Shore Road that I co-listed with Jack Teeden is set on a beautiful three acres of land on the north end of the island, built in 1875 — that was the Jamestown Inn,” she said. “It’s a beautiful home with over 6,000 square feet of living, carriage house, deepwater dock."

“I’m also excited that we were able to find buyers for our sellers — they’re extremely excited,” she added.
