How PC School of Continuing Education’s Micro MBA Program Equips Students for Post-Pandemic World

Dr. Patrick Kelly appeared on GoLocal LIVE
Dr. Patrick Kelly, an associate professor of Accounting at Providence College’s School of Continuing Education, appeared on GoLocal LIVe where he discussed how business owners and corporate leaders always need to be agile in responding to rapid changes in the marketplace and business landscape, but that ability has been perhaps more important than ever since the start of the pandemic.

Kelly, who has particularly valuable insights on how business owners and managers can use key accounting principles and skills to remain prepared for unexpected challenges in the marketplace, and to be agile in responding to them when they occur, talked about how the Micro MBA program PC’s School of Continuing Education uniquely prepares students for the challenges — and opportunities — that lie ahead.

"Businesses have had to find that they need to be agile and they really need to be able to react and in some cases reinvent themselves — the firms that have done well have been successful and the firms that have not have kind of fallen on hard times — whether it’s airlines providing goods and services to people in education to government," said Kelly. "We’re fortunate that there’s been a floor provided through the CARES Act and PPP programs and the government has really supported people in the country during the crisis, but that’s not going to continue forever."

"You have to understand how your business worked from an accounting perspective, you have to understand your financial position, you have to understand your cost structure you have to understand how you’re going to raise revenue, what your expenses are going to be, how you are going to have access to cash — you have to have a really solid foundation," he said."

"So I’m really excited about the micro MBA program," said Kelley. "It is going to be providing fundamental tools to people who need it as they’re embarking maybe in a new business, or trying to increase their skills — because with the rate of change that we’re dealing with in today’s society, you have to be nimble in terms of what you know — and what you can do."
