Greg Mancini with Build RI joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE at the Rhode Island State House, to talk about the latest legislative proposal for taxpayer backing of a new Pawtucket Red Sox stadium — and more.
“We’re going to continue to advocate with lawmakers how important this project is to the state, the City of Pawtucket, and for our union members and union contractors that we work with,” said Mancini. “In terms of the particulars of the deal, that’s between the state and their negotiators and the PawSox and their owners.
Mancini responded to critics of the deal who do not want the state — or taxpayers — involved in providing funding for the team’s millionaire owners.
“I think that’s unrealistic. The state has a public-private partnership with McCoy and the PawSox, there’s a host of public-private partnerships around the state,” said Mancini. “It’s the way of the future — the state has to make sure it’s a smart investment. But the [opposition], it’s completely ridiculous.”
