Barnaby Evans on Sunday's WaterFire Recognizing RI Holocaust Memorial

Barnaby Evans, WaterFure
WaterFire's Barnaby Evans spoke with GoLocal's Kate Nagle about Sunday's special Labor Day weekend WaterFire lighting -- and its particular importance in the aftermath of Charlottesville.

The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island will join WaterFire at the special gathering to reaffirm the importance of the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial at 7:15 p.m.

The names of many Rhode Island survivors have been added recently to the Memorial and WaterFire has redesigned the way the lanterns illuminate the path to the life stone at this site of community remembrance.

"With the recent situation in Charlottesville and a deeply alarming rise in hate speech and intolerance across our country, we wanted to take this opportunity to show our entire community’s resolve to honor the original commitment of Roger Williams — to make our state a peaceful haven for all those persecuted for reasons of conscience," said WaterFire in a statement leading up to Sunday's event.
