Urban Greens Co-op Market Poised to Open in Providence

It has been decades in the making. In 2000, a group of 40 Rhode Islanders joined together to start a food buying club to ensure local products and fairer prices.
Fast forward nearly 20 years and the Urban Greens Co-op Market is scheduled to open in the next few weeks. The exact date is soon to be announced.
The new community focused, locally controlled market will provide an alternative for Providence residents. The market located on 93 Cranston Street is dedicated to “offering nutritious, affordable food that is sustainably sourced, culturally inclusive, and supportive of local food.”
Interim General Manager Tim Sullivan joined GoLocal LIVE’s Business Monday and discussed the effort to create a sustainable model for local foods.
Sullivan, originally from west Iowa, came to Rhode Island to help open the new retail location.
He discussed the model and the inclusionary structure of the business.
