Two Leading RI African-American Artists Are Analyzed in a Talk and Pop-up Exhibit

Stages of Freedom presents "Carve Paint: Nancy Elizabeth Prophet and Edward Bannister, Two Rhode Island Black Artists" on Thursday, April 19th,5:30 pm at 10 Westminster Street, Providence, RI.

The special talk and one-day pop-up exhibit are free but registration is required HERE.

The event is funded by The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.

Cathy Little Bert, owner of Bert Gallery in Providence, will provide an illustrated talk on sculptress Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, the first Black graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. Ray Rickman, executive director of Stages of Freedom, will discuss landscape artist Edward Mitchell Bannister, the first American artist to receive a national award, and co-founder of the Providence Art Club.

Stages of Freedom is a nonprofit dedicated to presenting African American culture and history to the entire community.
