There's no better motivation for getting fit than a road race, and we've rounded up the April runs that not only do you some good, but a worthy cause as well. What are you waiting for? Sign up and lace up.

Sunday, April 10: Race Against Racism 5K
10am, River Island Park, Woonsocket
Join to celebrate diversity, unite people of all races, and demonstrate your commitment to eliminate racism. Your sponsorships can be allocated to 10 different participating non-profit organizations.  Register to run or walk by April 7, here.

Sunday, April 10: Walk MS/5K Rhode Race
Colt State Park, Bristol
A companion to the well-known and popular Walk for MS, this 5K run is along a beautiful, scenic course. Check in at Mount Hope High School. To register, go here.

Saturday, April 16: Frosty Drew Classic 5K Fun Run/Walk
11:30am, Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory, Charlestown
Support the state's beloved center for nature- and star-lovers. Top three male and female runners will get their own homemade apple pie. $15 pre-registered runner/walkers, $20 on race day, kids 10 and under free. Pre-register by April 11, for more information, go here.

Saturday, April 16: The Red Nose Run for Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island/5K
Fun run/walk for families and participants of all ages, benefits Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island, providing education and job taining to youth and adults with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Kids fun run as well as walk. Registration begins at 8:30am. Roger Williams Park, Elmwood Ave, Providence,Call 861-2080x120 for more information.

Sunday April 17: Rhode Island State Police 5K
10am, North Beach Clubhouse, Narragansett Town Beach
There's cash for the top runners, as well as teams. But for the most of the participating runers, their entry fees benefit the RI State Police Charitable Fund. Plus, there's a Brooks microfiber t-shirt to the first 600 entrants, plus a free post-race cookout. Pre-entry $22, children 15 and under $15, if postmarked by April 20 or online, here. Day of race $25, children 15 and under $15.

Saturday April 23: Portsmouth Police Department's Third Annual Road Race and Fun Run 5K/1mile
9:30 fun run (1 mile); 10am 5K, main gate of Second Beach, Middletown
This doesn't raise funds per se, but honors all law enforcement, say organizers, particularly those who have been killed in the line of duty. First 200 pre-entries receive a free race t-shirt. Register online, here.

Saturday, April 23: 11th Annual Scott Carlson Memorial Road Race ALS 5K Run/Walk
10am, Goddard Memorial State Park, Warwick
While all proceeds benefit Rhode Islanders struggling with ALS (last year generated $50,000 to the RI ALS chapter), there are still big prizes for big finishers, including $500 for breaking the course record. $25 mail-in registration, $27 online, $30 on-site day of race. Register online or print out form at www.teamals.org.
